If you need to present a German death certificate in another European country, you can apply for a multilingual form to be issued by the registry office.
The form replaces the generally required translation of the German death certificate.
Procedure
You can apply for a multilingual form for a German death certificate either verbally or in writing at the relevant registry office.
- You submit the application for a multilingual form for a German death certificate to the relevant registry office and enclose the necessary documents.
- To create a multilingual form, you must specify the country in which the document is to be submitted.
- The registry office will check your details and the documents you have submitted and, if necessary, issue the multilingual form.
- The registry office will send you the multilingual form by post if no personal collection has been arranged.
- The fees are paid either in advance or after delivery / on collection.
You can also request the issue of a multilingual form in connection with the issue of a death certificate.
Prerequisites
You are authorised to submit an application for a multilingual death certificate form as:
- Spouse and life partner of the deceased person,
- Ancestor or descendant of the deceased person,
- Siblings of the deceased person, if you can credibly demonstrate a legitimate interest, or
- other person if you can credibly demonstrate a legal interest.
You must be at least 16 years old.

What fees are incurred?
12.00 euros (if ordered at the same time, each additional copy costs 6.00 euros), unless the municipality has set a different fee by statute.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The period of 30 years for keeping the register of deaths by the registry office must not have expired.
