As in Dudenhöfer Straße, Ludwigstraße, Ober-Rodener-Straße and Nieuwpoorter Straße, road safety is now also being improved in Hainburgstraße. Hainburgstraße is a busy main road that is used by more and more people: In addition to motor traffic, more and more people are travelling there on foot, in wheelchairs and with pushchairs, walking aids, scooters or bicycles. The pavement widths do not allow for officially ordered pavement parking in Hainburgstraße. In order to ensure the safety of pedestrians and prevent dangerous swerving onto the carriageway, parking on the pavement will be prohibited in future. As the existing width of the carriageway does not allow parking on both sides, parking will be prohibited on one side of the road. As parking has already become established on the western side, this regulation will apply to the eastern side of the road in future. The vehicles parked entirely on the carriageway will narrow the carriageway, so that the maximum permitted speed between Fontanestraße and Frankfurter Straße will be reduced from 50 to 30 kilometres per hour. Stopping in front of entrances and exits will remain permitted. Parking space markings will be dispensed with for the time being in order to preserve more parking space. The reduced speed creates gaps for entering and exiting and gives oncoming traffic more reaction time. If there is a need to optimise the new parking regulations, subsequent adjustments will be considered. Residents and businesses have already received written information in the last few days. Based on experience with similar projects, it can be assumed that it will take some time for everyone to familiarise themselves with the new regulations. In this respect, everyone involved will need to be patient. The Department of Public Safety and Order will monitor the measure to ensure that overall road safety is increased and the average speed is reduced in the long term.
