Services for citizens
The heatwave of this summer is still almost palpable, whilst the cyber-attack of 2023 and the storm of 2019 remain fresh in our minds. These events bring home just how quickly crisis situations can affect everyday life in Rodgau. It makes sense to be well prepared and able to respond. The town of Rodgau wishes to support residents in making personal preparations and working together to cope with such situations. It has therefore compiled a comprehensive range of information at www.rodgau.de/Notfall. The pages provide quick guidance both in personal emergencies and in the event of major incidents. Here you will find not only important contacts for exceptional medical or mental health situations, but also specific advice on how to prepare for and respond to disruptions to daily life. These may include general environmental events such as extreme heat, heavy rain and flooding, fires, storms or infrastructure failures such as prolonged power cuts, water shortages and gas leaks .
News in an emergency
In the event of a major emergency, the website also serves as a platform for the ongoing publication of the most important alerts and updates. “With this proactive service, we aim to provide our citizens with digital support,” explains Mayor Breitenbach. “Crises become manageable when we know how to deal with them. Good preparation makes us, as a city-wide community, resilient and capable of taking action.” The city’s emergency and disaster planning is deliberately based on two pillars: personal preparedness on the part of the public and measures taken by the authorities.
Brochure and checklists
As well as the council’s plans, the support of every individual is crucial – for example, by keeping a small stock of food or knowing how to offer help to neighbours. The new emergency pages provide suitable checklists for this, as does the leaflet from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), which is also available in paper form from the Citizens’ Service desk at the Town Hall.
Emergency points and crisis management
The city has designated a number of so-called emergency points, the locations, services and functions of which are also explained on the emergency pages. A member of staff from the Fire Service Coordination Unit works in collaboration with the relevant authorities in the district of Offenbach. The municipal utilities and the city administration work together on emergency and disaster management tasks, which are coordinated by a crisis management team in the event of an emergency. After all, the general principle is that those who are prepared can act more effectively and safely.
