What should you do in the event of a power cut?

  • Keep calm
  • Check the fuses and switch them back on if necessary
  • Check whether the neighbours or the street are also without power
  • Securing buildings
  • Close the doors and windows
  • Notify the electricity network operator ENO, if still possible
  • Helping older people and those with disabilities

 

In the event of a prolonged outage

  • Pay attention to announcements made over the loudspeaker or obtain information at emergency points
  • You may wish to check the NINA Warn app or the HessenWarn app
  • Avoiding unnecessary road traffic
  • Only leave the house for essential errands
  • If necessary, seek out emergency accommodation, details of which will be announced in the event of a crisis
  • Do not use a barbecue or open fire inside the building – risk of carbon monoxide poisoning

 

Tips for stocking up in the event of a prolonged power cut – preparing for emergencies

  • Power bank, possibly solar-powered
  • Hand-crank or battery-powered radio
  • Non-perishable food
  • Water supply: 2 litres per day per person, ideally for 10 days, but at least 3 days
  • Gas cooker or camping stove
  • Blankets
  • Warm clothing
