Notification of guards
Service description
If, as a security company, you wish to employ persons who are to be entrusted with security tasks and with the management of a business or branch office, you must notify the competent authority in advance and enclose the documents listed below. The same applies to the legal representatives of legal entities, insofar as they are to be directly involved in the performance of security tasks, as well as the persons authorised to manage the business or a branch and in the case of temporary employment. Upon receipt of the notification, the authority checks the reliability of this person.
The registration of security guards and persons authorised to manage the business or a branch is carried out electronically via the security guard register.Which documents are required?
The notification of the intention to employ a security guard, a legal representative or a person authorised to manage the business or a branch office must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Proof of instruction in accordance with § 34a para. 1a sentence 1 no. 2 of the Trade, Commerce and Industry Regulation Act or
- Examination certificate for the relevant qualification for the guarding trade in accordance with § 8 No. 1 of the Guarding Ordinance or
- Examination certificate on completion of a career examination at least for the intermediate police law enforcement service, for the intermediate prison service, for the intermediate customs service (with authorisation to carry a weapon) or for military police in the German Armed Forces or
- Examination certificate of successful completion of a law degree programme at a university or academy that awards a degree equivalent to a university degree, if proof of instruction by a chamber of industry and commerce on the subject areas pursuant to Section 7 (5) to (7) is also available, or
- Certificate of successful completion of the examination of expertise in accordance with Section 11 (7) of the Guarding Ordinance or
- Certificate from the previous trader in accordance with Section 23 (1) sentence 2 of the Guarding Ordinance or
- Certificate from the (former) employer in accordance with § 23 Para. 2 Sentence 2 of the Guarding Ordinance on uninterrupted, authorised activity in the guarding industry since at least 01.01.2000 - 01.01.2003
- Notification of places of residence for the last five years, stating the period, street, house number, postcode, town, country and state,
- Copy of the guard's identity document.
If the person is to be entrusted with patrols in public traffic areas or in areas with actual public traffic, with protection against shoplifters or with guarding the entrance areas of catering discotheques, proof of successful completion of a certificate of competence from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce is required.Further documents may be required depending on the tasks performed by the security guards.

What fees are incurred?
The fee for the background check is at least 70 euros.
