Certificate of descent

  • Service description

The certificate of descent was abolished on 1 January 2009 by the Personal Status Law Reform Act. With the abolition of the certificate of descent, an adoption can now only be established by means of a "notarised register printout" of the birth entry.

The certificate of descent served as proof of the birth of a child. It contains additional information (such as name changes or the entry of an adoption) that is not recorded on the birth certificate.

The certificate of parentage was required for marriages, as it could be used to establish the biological parents. Only the legal parents are noted on the birth certificate. The purpose of the certificate of parentage was to establish impediments to marriage in the case of adopted children.
