How do children and young people experience Nieder-Roden? Where do they like to spend their time, and which places do they like less? These questions form the focus of a youth participation initiative being carried out by the town of Rodgau as part of the development of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) for the ‘Zuhause in Nieder-Roden’ development area. Children and young people aged ten and over can take part easily. A map of the development area will be on display at various locations throughout October – at the Dudenhofen Youth Centre, Come In Jügesheim, the Heinrich Böll School, the library in the Social Centre on Puiseauxplatz, and on Wednesdays at the youth club on Puiseauxplatz. Using a variety of stickers, participants can mark places they particularly like, as well as areas they do not enjoy spending time in. Anyone who wishes to do so can also explain their views in more detail or make suggestions for improvement. Alternatively, you can take part online via the City of Rodgau’s participation platform at https://rodgau.govocal.com. On a digital map showing the development area, you can place pins at the relevant locations. You can also add comments to these. This allows children and young people to take part in the survey regardless of time or place. Through this participation, the town aims to specifically incorporate the perspectives of young people into the further development of the neighbourhood. This is because children and young people often use public spaces, routes, meeting places and leisure facilities differently to adults, and consequently perceive different strengths and challenges. The results of the youth participation will be incorporated into the drafting of the ISEK. This plan examines the existing areas requiring action and the development potential of the funding area, whilst setting out objectives and possible measures for the coming years. The ISEK thus forms an important basis for the further implementation of the ‘Social Cohesion’ urban development funding programme in Nieder-Roden.
