Service description
The birth of a child must be reported to the competent authority in whose jurisdiction it was born.
You are obliged to report a home birth in the following order:
- each parent of the child, if they have custody rights,
- any other person who was present at the birth or is aware of the birth from their own knowledge.
Which documents are required?
- for parents who are married to each other
- Birth certificates of the parents and the marriage certificate
- or a notarised copy of the marriage register
- for parents who are not married to each other
- Birth certificate of the mother
- if paternity has already been recognised:
- Declarations on the acknowledgement of paternity
- Birth certificate of the father
- if applicable, the declarations of custody
- Parents' identity card, passport or a recognised passport replacement document
- In the case of oral notification, a certificate of birth issued by a doctor or a midwife or maternity nurse, provided they were present at the birth.
A marriage certificate must also be submitted if the marriage has been dissolved.

What deadlines do I have to observe?
The birth of a child must be reported to the competent authority within one week.
The day of birth is not included in the calculation of the notification period.
If a child is stillborn or dies in childbirth, the notification must be submitted no later than the third working day following the birth.
