  • Service description

    If you and your spouse subsequently decide on a married name after your child has reached the age of five, the married name will only extend to your child's birth name if he or she agrees to the name declaration. If your child has reached the age of 14, they can only make the declaration themselves; as the legal representative, you must give your consent.

  • Procedure

    You can submit the declaration of name change at any registry office; it must be officially notarised. The declaration becomes effective as soon as it is received by the registry office that notarised the birth of your child.

    You will receive a certificate confirming the name change.

    The marriage register and the birth register are updated.

  • Prerequisites

    Your child must agree to the name change if he or she is already 5 years old.

    • Child's birth certificate (with official translation if necessary),
    • Identity cards or passports,
    • Proof of your name change.

    Further documents may be required in individual cases. You can enquire about these at the registry office.

  • What fees are incurred?

    A fee of EUR 23.50 is charged for the notarisation of the declaration, unless the municipality has set a different fee by statute.

  • What deadlines do I have to observe?

    The declaration must be received by the competent registry office within three months.
