1.84 million people in Germany have been diagnosed with dementia. 70% of them are looked after and cared for at home by relatives. Despite the associated burdens, many of them find caring a meaningful and enriching experience in their lives. However, because family carers are often required to work around the clock, they also need support and relief, advice, exchange, knowledge transfer and emotional support. In order to provide relief and assistance, the community care service of the city's senior citizens' advice centre is offering a monthly discussion group for caring and supportive relatives from June. The meeting point for the exchange is in the Nieder-Roden Social Centre, Puiseauxplatz 3. The dates are scheduled for Tuesdays on 23 June, 21 July, 26 August, 29 September, 24 November and 21 December from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The discussion group offers the opportunity to obtain information and discuss problems without hindrance. Relatives can find understanding from those equally affected, exchange experiences or simply "get out". The aim is to make the responsible and sometimes very stressful situation a little easier for family carers. Registration is not necessary and participation is free of charge. If you have any questions, please contact the community care centre of the town of Rodgau on 06106 693-1165 or by email at senioren@rodgau.de.
