From mid-April, the city's senior citizens' counselling service will be inviting people to lectures on the topic of dementia and also offering the opportunity to try out an interesting self-experiment. Dementia is one of the most common and most serious psychiatric illnesses in old age. In Germany, 1.7 million people currently suffer from dementia, and the trend is rising with increasing age. Around 60% of people with dementia live in private households. Family carers are exposed to particular stress due to the challenging behaviour of those in need of care. Care and support situations can be better managed if carers are informed about the course of the disease, how to deal with people with dementia, treatment options and the legal framework. In cooperation with the Offenbach district's ageing control centre, the senior citizens' advice service offers lectures in which basic information is explained by competent specialists. The series begins with a dementia course on Wednesday, 15 April. Over two days, relatives and interested parties will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the experiences of those affected by trying out the course for themselves. The lectures deal with the following topics: "The medical background of dementia - diagnosis and therapy", 16 April, "Music in the everyday life of people with dementia", 22 April, "Dealing with people with dementia", 29 April, "Mastering challenging situations with strength and composure", 20 May, "Suddenly a care case - what to do now", 26 May. The lectures will take place from 18:00 to 20:00 in the town hall, city council meeting room, Hintergasse 15. Attendance is free of charge and registration is not required. The individual dates will be announced via the press and social media and can be found on the homepage www. Rodgau.de.
