Stability checks will be carried out on 6 July at all cemeteries in Rodgau. The relevant times are displayed in the noticeboards at the cemeteries. Rodgau Municipal Utilities is obliged, in accordance with the cemetery regulations (§ 35 Foundations and Fixings) and the relevant provisions (accident prevention regulations) of the Horticultural Trade Association, to check all gravestones for structural stability. The stability or overall condition of gravestones can be compromised, in particular, by weather conditions or the nature of the materials used, such as rusted dowels. This gives rise to accident risks, for the consequences of which the authorised users are liable. The safety inspection pays particular attention to older graves. Due to constant exposure to the elements, there is a heightened risk here that defects may not be visible externally but can only be detected upon closer inspection. If defects are identified during the inspection, the cemetery administration is obliged to affix a plaque with a corresponding notice to the gravestone in a visible position. If anchoring pins are so corroded that they no longer provide any support whatsoever, the cemetery administration is required, in order to prevent accidents, to secure the gravestone immediately or to topple it over. The authorised users are requested to have the gravestones of their relatives, which have been marked with a corresponding plaque, repaired professionally without delay. These stability measures are necessary in the interests of all cemetery visitors and are carried out once a year.
