On an exciting excursion to the Offenbach Weather Park as part of vhs course 262010905, participants discover how weather data is collected today and what a central role it plays in our everyday lives – from agriculture to modern navigation. How did weather observation actually work in the past, without satellites or the internet? What methods did meteorologists use 150 years ago, and how reliable were their forecasts? These questions are answered at the visitor centre, where participants will discover fascinating historical measuring instruments, some of which are still in use today. The course provides a clear and accessible explanation of how meteorology has developed over time – from simple observations to highly complex models. The course takes place on Saturday, 5 September, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Waldfreizeitanlage in Offenbach, Am Wetterpark 15. Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the venue; the meeting point is at the entrance to the visitor centre a quarter of an hour before the course begins. Please note that the guided tour involves long walks and is not accessible to people with mobility impairments. Course fees can be viewed on the website or in the vhs programme booklet.
