Pavement parking
Is parking on the pavement permitted?
Parking on the pavement is generally not permitted under Section 12 of the Road Traffic Regulations.
Why is it not allowed?
The following people are particularly vulnerable in road traffic
- pedestrians
- People with walking frames
- People with pushchairs
- Children up to the age of 8 who have to use the pavement on their bicycles
- Parents who accompany their children on the pavement
For this reason, the entire pavement must be available. The legislator has also clarified this again in the new catalogue of fines since November 2021 with new higher amounts.
The aim is also to ensure that the use of motor vehicles is limited to what is necessary in a climate-conscious and environmentally friendly manner.
What can I do?
To relieve the pressure on public car parks, you can consider the following:
- Please check whether there is space for the vehicle on your property or in your garage
- Perhaps your vehicles can also be parked there one behind the other
- If there is little space in your street, you can also park your vehicle a little further away and walk a few more metres
In terms of environmental friendliness, it can also be useful to consider whether you can also reach your destinations by public transport and thus reduce the number of journeys by car.
How high is the fine?
A fine of at least €55.00 is charged for parking on pavements.
