Do you already hold a driving licence and would like to add another licence (category)?
In principle, the provisions of the initial licence apply to the extension of a driving licence
Exceptions exist for:
- the extension of category A1 to category A2 and the extension of category A2 to category A:
If you have previously held category A1 or category A2 for two years, you only have to take one practical test each time (promotion). - the extension of category B to category BE, of category C1 to category C1E, of category D to category DE and of category D1 to category D1E:
Only one practical test must be taken in each case.

Procedure
You submit the relevant application to extend your driving licence to the driving licence authority responsible for you.
Responsible office
The responsibility lies with the driving licence authorities.
Prerequisites
You must submit an application for the issue/extension of a driving licence.
Please contact the driving licence authority in the place where you have your main residence.
Which documents are required?
- Identity card or passport, registration certificate if applicable
- Previous driving licence
- current biometric photo in accordance with the PassV (size 45x35mm, portrait format, front view)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
- Proof of eyesight
What fees are incurred?
The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
