Extension of a temporary driving licence
Service description
The driving licence for categories C, CE, C1 or C1E, D, DE, D1 or D1E is issued for a maximum of five years and can be extended by five years at the request of the licence holder.

Prerequisites
- You must provide proof of your eyesight and a medical certificate confirming that you are physically and mentally fit to drive a lorry.
- For D classes, you must also present a certificate of good conduct. If you are over 50 years old, you must also submit a performance psychology report for D classes.
Which documents are required?
- Official proof of place and date of birth (e.g. identity card, passport)
- Previous driving licence
- a current photograph that complies with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (biometric, size 45 mm x 35 mm, portrait format)
- Proof of eyesight in accordance with the model in Annex 6 No. 2 to the Driving Licence Ordinance.
You can have the certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, a company or occupational physician or a doctor from the health authority. A certificate issued is valid for 2 years. - Proof of physical and mental aptitude in accordance with the specimen in Annex 5 to the Driving Licence Ordinance
You can have the certificate issued by any doctor. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of application. - In addition, for categories D, D1, DE, D1E, if you have reached the age of 50, a performance psychology certificate. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of application.
What fees are incurred?
The fee is based on the current version of the scale of fees for road traffic measures.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The application can be submitted at the earliest six months before the expiry date of the previous driving licence.
Please note: If the application is submitted after the expiry date of the previous driving licence, a new driving licence will be issued instead of an extension. The fact that you were previously the holder of a corresponding driving licence is then no longer evident from the new licence.
