Mortuary passport
Service description
A corpse passport is required for the transfer of a body abroad.
A corpse passport is also required for the transfer of a corpse from Hesse to other federal states if their legislation requires a corpse passport for the transport or burial of the corpse.
Procedure
The corpse passport must be requested by the relative responsible for the funeral or by the funeral parlour commissioned with the transport.
Which documents are required?
- Death certificate or certificate of deferral of notarisation
- Body certificate
- Certificate of the second post-mortem examination
- Certificate of proper burial by the funeral parlour
- Certificate from the funeral parlour that the transport will be carried out with a vehicle intended for transporting the body.
- If applicable, written authorisation for the commissioned funeral home
- If there are indications of a non-natural death or the body of an unknown person:
Authorisation from the public prosecutor's office or the local court - Medical certificate from the public health department stating that there are no health concerns regarding the transport of the body if the deceased was infected with a notifiable disease in accordance with the Infection Protection Act
