Service description
The birth of a child must be reported to the registry office.
Notifiable parties
In the case of births in hospitals and other obstetric facilities, the obligation to notify is incumbent on the organisation responsible for the facility. Otherwise, births must be reported in the following order:- each parent of the child, if they have custody rights,
- any other person who was present at the birth or who is aware of the birth from their own knowledge. (This includes midwives and doctors in particular).
Which documents are required?
The following documents are required to register the birth of a child:
- If the child's parents are married: their birth certificates and the marriage certificate or a notarised printout from the marriage register.
- If the child's parents are not married: the mother's birth certificate and, if paternity has already been recognised, the declarations of paternity and the father's birth certificate and, if applicable, the declarations of custody.
- Parents' identity card or passport
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The birth must be reported within one week.
