Information series: Dementia trail and lecture in the town hall

As part of the dementia information series, the city's senior citizens' counselling service, in cooperation with the ageing control centre, invites relatives of dementia sufferers and anyone else who is interested to try out 8-10 stations on the dementia trail. This will give them an insight into the experiences of those affected. The trail can be visited on Wednesday, 15 April, from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Thursday, 16 April, from 10:00 to 16:00. Dementia is a disease that impairs memory and cognitive abilities and can affect older people in particular. How does it feel? How does everyday life change, what challenges and barriers arise? The respective stations simulate the reality of life for people with dementia. They focus on everyday tasks such as dressing, cooking, shopping or finding your way in traffic and make the difficulties that arise tangible. The aim of the self-experiment course developed by "Hands-on Dementia" is to promote understanding of the needs of people with dementia. Participants should develop greater empathy in order to better support those affected and give them positive energy for life. The course will be provided by the Offenbach district's ageing control centre. Also on Thursday, 16 April, the lecture "The medical background of dementia - diagnosis and therapy" will take place from 18:00 to 20:00. The generic term "dementia" covers various disease patterns. Christian Seifried, a specialist in neurology/geriatrics, will give a rough overview of the most common forms of dementia, their symptoms and treatment options. Both the dementia course and the lecture will take place in the city council meeting room, town hall, Hintergasse 15. The events are free of charge and no registration is required.
