Safety in old age: Three new safety advisors on duty for Rodgau

Older people often have a pronounced need for security, but frequently feel threatened in their everyday lives by forms of crime such as trick theft or doorstep selling. In order to offer this target group competent support at eye level, the town of Rodgau is pleased to present three newly trained "Security Advisors for Senior Citizens" (SfS). They are the first of their kind, as there have never been any such safety advisors before. In November, three committed citizens from Rodgau were qualified for this important task in a training course lasting several days organised by the South-East Hesse Police Headquarters. The special thing about it: All three new counsellors are active members of Bürgerhilfe Rodgau and therefore already have a close network within the town. Gerda Kloidt, Peter Kley and Michael Weis offer competent help for senior citizens. The project is based on the principle of multipliers: volunteers, who know the concerns of their age group from their own experience, provide information on crime prevention and accident risks. They act as direct contacts in the neighbourhood and at events. First City Councillor Janika Martin emphasises the importance of this commitment: "Safety in old age is a valuable asset. I am delighted that we can build a bridge between the police and our older citizens with the new safety advisors. Their voluntary work makes a significant contribution to ensuring that senior citizens in Rodgau feel well informed and safe." The city of Rodgau will actively support the project: In the coming months, the municipal senior citizens' counselling service is already planning joint information events and presentations together with the new safety advisors in order to sustainably strengthen the subjective sense of security of senior citizens in Rodgau. Interested parties who would also like to get involved in the programme can contact the city administration on their own initiative for future training measures.
