The town of Rodgau and the citizens' initiative "Schotti" have mutually agreed on a viable solution proposal for their committees in the context of the future use/dedication of the "Historische Ortsbering" path on the Rodau in Dudenhofen.
A so-called "Ortsbering" is a path that surrounds the old village centre and was included in the reallocation process as part of the reallocation procedure in accordance with the Reichsumlegungsordnung (Reich Reallocation Ordinance), among other things to relieve the narrow farmyards and as a connecting path as part of the path network for fields and meadows, cattle drives and pedestrians. The previously valid dedication appears to be outdated.
The original agricultural and forestry significance has now been noticeably reduced, which is why an adjustment is necessary and should be made. In concrete terms, this now means that this road is to be redesignated as a cycle route. The installation of bollards at the Bleichstraße junction will prevent motorised through traffic in future. The designation of an absolute stopping ban on the entire cycle lane is intended to further increase road safety.
The entrance to the two cul-de-sacs will be free for residents, allowing them to access their properties at any time. It is generally agreed that this traffic area has served its creators well for decades. In future, it will be an important component of the inner-city cycle network and thus a key factor in the municipal transport transition. At the same time, it is important for everyone involved that residents can reach their properties in a legally secure manner in the long term.
Finding an appropriate balance between both aspects and not losing sight of the promotion and advantages of local mobility parallel to Nieuwpoorter Straße for the population was and is the common goal of the citizens' initiative "Schotti" and the city of Rodgau. "Dedicating the road as a cycle lane is the solution that takes into account the interests of all parties involved and creates a sustainable basis for the future. This is an important step in the expansion of our mobility infrastructure. I am all the more pleased that we are taking this path together in the interests of everyone, because that is always our goal," summarised Mayor Max Breitenbach.
In order to improve road safety, the town of Rodgau and the citizens' initiative "Schotti" are endeavouring to extend a floodlit cycle lane and apply an asphalt surface. In view of the difficult budgetary situation, however, these structural changes are subject to the proviso of corresponding state funding.
The representatives of the citizens' initiative and the city of Rodgau agree that the environment and the preservation of the local recreational character along the Rodau should also be protected and participation promoted. "Especially in the current season, the reduced daylight shows that only after an extension can the Ortsbering be used safely and barrier-free for all citizens," says the citizens' initiative "Schotti".
Thanks to the intensive and constructive mediation and recommendations of all parties involved, a holistic plan is being drafted that strikes a balance between the legitimate interests of neighbouring residents and urban traffic planning in the interests of all.
