Final measures against pavement parking

Introduction of pavement parking

For four years now, the regulatory authority has been taking measures against pavement parking. The basis for this is the general ban on pavement parking, which has been enshrined in road traffic regulations for many years. It is only permitted where it is legally authorised. In the meantime, almost all streets where parking on the pavement was illegal have been dealt with. The most recent action took place in the streets around Schillerstrasse in Weiskirchen.

New: Friedberger Straße and Württemberger Straße

The last two streets are now in the pipeline. From the end of September, the campaign will be carried out in Friedberger Strasse (Dudenhofen) and Württemberger Strasse (Hainhausen).

Stages of introduction

As always, the first step is to send an information letter to the residents of the individual streets. After that, the people participating in the traffic will be made aware of the procedure by means of notices on the windscreen, so that in the third step, the pavement parkers will be fined. It therefore takes about 3 weeks from the first information to the penalty. In the streets where the campaign has already been carried out, parking on the pavement will continue to be cautioned. The warning fine of €55 or more is due to a nationwide increase in charges by the Federal Ministry of Transport since November 2021. This is intended to emphasise the importance of non-motorised traffic on pavements, which is particularly worthy of protection.

Outlook

According to this, pavement parking should no longer take place on any roads in the city area. In the main thoroughfares (former B45), special regulations have also been implemented regarding pavement parking with the corresponding markings. This is intended to slow down the flow of traffic while maintaining as many parking spaces as possible.
