Friendship celebrated in Hainburg an der Donau

A delegation from Rodgau spent some unforgettable days in Hainburg an der Donau from 15 to 18 August. The focus was on the "re-sisterhood celebration", which reaffirmed the town twinning that has existed for 51 years. The guests from Rodgau were warmly welcomed by their friends in Hainburg. A varied programme awaited the delegation: in addition to a visit to Nieder-Roden Park and the planting of two memorial trees in the twinning forest, the programme included a tour of the town, the traditional Floriani breakfast and socialising with the Hainburg hosts. The ceremonial highlight took place in front of the historic Halterturm tower. There, the mayors of both towns honoured their longstanding ties. "A city is more than just a geographical point on the map; history begins with people," emphasised Mayor Max Breitenbach. In his speech, he emphasised that the partnership is indispensable even in challenging times: "Friendship builds a bridge to the future. We will carry the flame of friendship forward." Hainburg's mayor Johannes Gumprecht also recalled the beginnings of the partnership and paid tribute to Karoline Riedmayer and Karlheinz Nenner, who had made a decisive contribution to building the friendship on both sides. For the delegation from Rodgau, it was a moving moment to see the roots of the connection at the centre of attention and at the same time to look to the future. Hans-Peter Hermann, Chairman of the Nieder-Roden/Hainburg town twinning working group, was particularly celebrated. The Rodgau delegation and the Hainburg hosts congratulated him not only on his 70th birthday, but also on his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife Helianne. With a smile, he recalled that the partnership existed even before the current mayors were born - impressive proof of its longevity. For the delegation from Rodgau, the weekend in Hainburg was more than just an official visit. It was a celebration of friendship in action, characterised by encounters, exchanges and warm hospitality. The guests travelled home with many fond memories and a clear commitment to the partnership - in the knowledge that the connection between Rodgau and Hainburg will remain alive in the future.
