Simple insulation measure: Energy-saving tip from the consumer advice centre in Hesse

Insulate heating and hot water pipes

Insulate heating and hot water pipes: This measure is inexpensive and, if you are a skilled craftsman, can also be done by yourself. If you are renting, you should obtain the landlord's permission beforehand, preferably in writing. Complete pipe insulation ensures that no heat is lost on the way from the cellar through the house in the long term. Insulating the heating and hot water pipes as well as heating fittings in unheated rooms is not only mandatory under the German Building Energy Act (GEG), but also saves noticeable heating costs per metre - even for short distances, the effort is worthwhile. Insulation is easy to install yourself and the investment often pays for itself in less than a year. Suitable insulating materials such as self-adhesive pipe insulation or insulating shells are available on the market to make retrofitting easier. The insulation layer should be at least as thick as the pipe diameter.
