The long-awaited work to remodel the old cemetery in Nieder-Roden begins. The park will be closed to the public from 14 July. The closure is expected to last until at least the end of next year, as extensive renovation and remodelling work is due to be carried out. The plans for the redesign were drawn up in 2019 in a charette process with citizens. The first preparatory steps of the first construction phase include setting up the construction site and erecting the construction fences. This phase focuses in particular on the renovation of the listed gatehouses and the repair of the surrounding park wall. In close consultation with the Nieder-Roden local history working group, the existing gravestones will be carefully removed, temporarily stored and in some cases later reintegrated into the design of the park. The wall will be opened up for the new access to the park on Ahornweg, not only to create a new entrance, but also to enable the laying of necessary supply lines, including for the use of the gatehouses. In this area of Ahornweg, temporary pavement closures may occur in consultation with the public order office. The second construction phase, which includes the redesign of the green areas and the redesign of the access route from Friedensstraße while preserving the existing lime trees, is scheduled for 2026. The city of Rodgau asks all citizens for their understanding for the necessary restrictions during the construction phase and looks forward to being able to present the old cemetery in Nieder-Roden in new splendour as an attractive and accessible park.
