The "Book Thirst" summer reading club at the Rodgau public library has started with record participation. Now that the registration deadline has expired on the last day of school before the holidays, the final participants have been announced. With an impressive 185 children and young people from 1st to 9th grade, this year's club has the highest number of participants since it was first organised in 2015. 134 children and young people took part last year. Once again this year, only the participants will receive exclusive access to a selection of brand new children's and young adult literature. Over 250 new books were purchased for the event and they are selling like hot cakes. The industrious bookworms even devoured 349 books before the start of the holidays. The books can of course be found on site, an overview of all available titles can also be found in the media catalogue of the city library (https://sb-rodgau.lmscloud.net/) under the keyword "Buchdurst 2025". The fact that both libraries have a different selection is not a problem, as participants can order their reading material from both locations. This doubles the selection. New this year is the division into two age groups "Buchdurst Junior" (1st to 4th grade) and "Buchdurst" (5th to 9th grade) to ensure that the awards and prizes are as fair and age-appropriate as possible. As a result, there are twice as many winners this year as in previous years. A central aim of "Book Thirst" is to promote the reading behaviour and reading skills of the participants in an entertaining and sustainable way. Because promoting reading means more than just reading books. It strengthens cognitive skills, expands vocabulary, promotes text comprehension and supports the ability to express oneself linguistically. That's why "Buchdurst" is more than just a reading club. It is an invitation to immerse yourself in the world of books, discover new stories and have a great time together with other reading fans. The Rodgau public library is already looking forward to the upcoming literary adventures and the big closing party in September, where all participants will be honoured for their great reading achievements.
