The information series on the topic of dementia organised by the city's senior citizens' advice service will conclude with two lectures aimed primarily at relatives or carers of people suffering from dementia. On Tuesday, 15 July, the focus will be on communication and dealing with people suffering from dementia. Living together with people with dementia requires perseverance, patience and respectful communication. Meeting those affected at eye level and taking their needs seriously contributes significantly to improving their quality of life - including that of their relatives. This evening will use many practical examples to teach the basics of dealing with people with dementia in different phases of the disease and to develop an understanding of the needs of those affected. The aim is to empower family members and show them that successful communication can contribute to everyone's quality of life. The speaker will be Maren Ewald from StattHaus Offenbach of the Hans and Ilse Breuer Foundation. In the second lecture on Thursday, 17 July, Martina Geßner, Entwicklungswerkstatt Martina Geßner, will explain how it is possible to master challenging situations with strength and composure. Caring for a person with dementia can quickly become a constant challenge and burden. People react very differently to stressful life situations. Some simply shrug off crises, others feel very overwhelmed. During this lecture, participants will gain an insight into how they can strengthen their own resilience in crises and how a well-developed resilience can carry them through difficult phases of life. Both lectures will take place in the city council meeting room of the town hall from 6 to 8 pm. Until Thursday, 10 July, the dementia course will simulate the reality of life for people with dementia in 8 to 10 stations. Participants should develop greater empathy in order to better support those affected and give them positive energy for life. Anyone interested can also visit the course in the city council meeting room on Wednesday from 1 to 6 pm and on Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission to all events is free and prior registration is not required.
