Municipal daycare centres as emergency islands

In 2002, the German Child Protection Foundation Hänsel+Gretel launched the Emergency Island Project, an initiative to provide children in emergency and dangerous situations as well as everyday minor problems with places to go in their town, community and neighbourhood. Since September last year, there have been a large number of so-called emergency islands for children in Rodgau, as in many places throughout Germany. Project manager Jennifer Jäger from the Agency for Economic Development and City Marketing has now succeeded in recruiting all of the city's daycare centres as "emergency islands". "I am proud of the support and helpfulness of our municipal employees in the "Notinsel" project. With this sign, we would like to encourage all companies to join the emergency islands!" emphasises Mayor Max Breitenbach. Participation in the project is free of charge for the "emergency islands". Interested businesses, doctors' surgeries, pharmacies etc. can contact notinsel@rodgau.de directly by email or visit the town's website at rodgau.de/notinsel to find out what they need to do to register. The initiators are looking forward to broad participation. The first "emergency islands" will start at the locations at the beginning of October. Parents are now also asked to inform their children about the project. General information on the supra-regional project can also be found at www.notinsel.de.
