Reforestation concept & "Schulwäldchen" campaign
Rodgau is actively committed to the reforestation of the municipal forest. The aim is to create a climate-resilient mixed forest that is ecologically healthy and biodiverse. A comprehensive reforestation concept was developed following the storm event in 2019. This also includes the "Schulwäldchen" campaign organised by the city of Rodgau with Rodgau's primary schools, in which around 1,800 trees have already been planted.
Carl Orff School plants
In mid-December, all pupils at the Carl Orff School took part in a planting campaign. At an early hour, they set off on foot from the school to the forest. There they had to use their strength to dig a hole with a spade. The little tree was then planted and fixed in place with the piece of earth that had been dug out. With commitment and concentration, everyone was able to plant one of a total of 300 fluttering elms in the fenced-off area in the forest, which had already been planted with oaks, cherries and sweet chestnuts.
Tree species & status of afforestation
This tree species is particularly suitable for sites with clay soil and alternating moisture conditions. The fluttering elm complements the diversity of tree species and supports the establishment of a climate-appropriate mixed forest. Since the start of the reforestation concept, the city has so far planted 95,000 new trees in the forest.
