Important information on issuing passports before the autumn holidays

With the autumn holidays approaching, the time to travel abroad is drawing closer. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs would like to point out that travellers should check the validity of their identity documents in good time before their departure. Especially when travelling abroad, it is crucial that the passport or ID card meets the requirements of the destination country. Travellers can currently expect a processing time of 8 to 12 weeks for the issue of regular passports. Travellers wishing to travel at short notice have the option of applying for an express passport. However, this option is associated with increased costs and should therefore be carefully considered. The Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs recommends that citizens check the identification and passport documents required for the destination country and, if necessary, visas or advance travel registrations at the time of planning their trip. Further information on this can be found in the travel and security advice issued by the Federal Foreign Office. Travel bookings should only be made once all the necessary documents and authorisations have been obtained. It is important to note that if a booking is made before the document situation has been clarified, the risk of possible complications lies with the traveller. The passport and ID authorities cannot guarantee production times for regularly ordered passports, nor can they guarantee reimbursement for additional expenses, such as applying for a temporary passport or rebooking. To ensure a smooth journey, travellers should therefore act early and find out about the necessary documents. This way, nothing stands in the way of a carefree holiday.
