Sculpture 'Icarus' at the forest cemetery in Jügesheim

When artist Wolfgang Hätscher-Rosenbauer offered the town of Rodgau one of his sculptures as a gift a few months ago, town councillor Winno Sahm and the team at the Agency for Art, Sport and Volunteering were delighted. The Dudenhöfer-born sculptor, who also grew up there, now lives in Bad Vilbel. However, he still maintains regular contact with Rodgau, including artistic contacts. Head of Cultural Affairs Winno Sahm and AKSE employee Gabriele Ziegler visited the artist in his Frankfurt studio and worked with him to select the sculpture 'Icarus'. The forest cemetery in Jügesheim was chosen as the installation site. The head of the Rodgau public utility company and the employees responsible for the cemetery quickly agreed to the choice and a suitable site was selected. The marble sculpture and base were installed by the Rodgau stonemasonry company Marmor Stenger. Now the figure is striving towards the sun or is falling. Both interpretations are legible. According to Greek mythology, Icarus flew too high and too close to the sun despite his father's warning. As a result, his wax wings melted and he crashed. Hätscher-Rosenbauer now works exclusively as a sculptor after many years of visual training. The sculpture was presented to the public on 24 September in the presence of Mayor Breitenbach, Markus Ebel-Waldmann, head of Rodgau's public utility company, the artist and employees of the town of Rodgau. The central location at the Jügesheim forest cemetery, close to the entrance and the mourning hall, does justice to this significant eye-catcher.
