All traffic areas at the construction site around Ludwig-Erhard-Platz and the Dudenhofen community centre were opened to regular traffic on 20 September. This means that the area can be used again without restriction by pedestrians, cyclists and motorised traffic a good two months before the planned completion date. The shops are now also easily accessible well ahead of the Christmas shopping season. For residents and neighbours in particular, this marks the end of a sometimes stressful period of construction noise and other inconveniences that construction sites of this size unfortunately entail. The early completion of the construction work was made possible by the courageous, flexible actions of the project team consisting of urban planning, municipal utilities, planning office ammon+sturm and Küllmer Ingenieure. After all, there were numerous unplanned challenges to overcome. After the start of construction was delayed by two weeks, unplanned events and necessary adjustments to the original planning occurred. Among other things, there was a minor discovery of explosive ordnance, gas pipes that deviated from the plan and weather-related construction stoppages. Now that all this has been overcome, the traffic-calmed square and the streets can be experienced by everyone with many new features. In the area of the second and third construction phases between Wilhelmsstraße and Nieuwpoorter Straße, there are still some red and white barriers. These are mainly located at the planting sites of the future trees and serve to ensure the safety of passers-by. They will be removed - probably at the end of autumn - when the remaining trees are planted. The trees can only be planted there sustainably once they have lost most of their leaves. When all the new plants and trees are in bloom next spring, an official inauguration ceremony will be held in the newly designed centre of Dudenhofen.
