This year's "Book Thirst" took place from 4 July to 6 September. The two municipal libraries from the districts of Jügesheim and Nieder-Roden took part. Children and young people from 1st to 9th grade were allowed to take part. A total of 143 participants borrowed an impressive 1008 books, of which 813 were rated. The final celebration took place in the Nieder-Roden library and on the neighbouring forecourt. First City Councillor Janika Martin honoured the first 10 places, who had read between 14 and 31 books. Each child then received a certificate, which also included an ice cream voucher for a scoop for the neighbouring ice cream parlour. All the book thirsty children were able to get an ice cream and watch the experimental show "Das Verrückte Kinderlabor" in the forecourt. After the show, the children returned to the library for refreshments, where there was pizza for everyone and the afternoon ended with a raffle. Tickets with numbers could be drawn, which were then assigned to a "Buchdurst" gym bag containing all kinds of gifts from local sponsors. There were vouchers for the lido, restaurants, ice cream parlours and cultural events in the city, as well as many non-cash prizes such as books, rucksacks, sweets, surprise bags, toys and drugstore products. The public library is delighted with the successful campaign and hopes that there will be plenty of participation again next year.
