From 20 November to 15 January, artists Bianca Thater and Katja Gehrung will be exhibiting works entitled 'My dear swan' at the Rodgau Gallery, Nieuwpoorter Str. 90. Many an object will prompt visitors to utter this exclamation. Animal metamorphoses is the theme of the two creative artists. They take them by the horns, so to speak. Although they both work in completely different art media, they harmonise in their humorous, fairytale-like and mysterious realisation. Both are also characterised by a strong female accent. Bianca Thater saws fabulous creatures out of various types of wood with a chainsaw. Katja Gehrung stages animal subjects with a camera. Animal masks coupled with animal metaphors are her favourite motifs. She herself is the only model. This is a special and very fascinating aspect of her photographs. Thater's wooden objects correspond with Gehrung's pictures and together they form an interesting arc of tension. Whether pets or farm animals, fleas or flies, animals are everywhere, regardless of whether we love, protect or destroy them. They enrich our everyday lives and stimulate our imagination. They have always served as inspiration for artists. Our everyday language is also full of animal comparisons that "don't fit on a cow's skin". Animal metaphors are used to explain, compare and deform the human condition. In the sculpture that Thater represents, animal motifs ensure attractiveness, attention and expression. In her photographic realisation, Gehrung interprets, among other things, grievances with a humorous eye. Paula Weilmünster on double bass and Laurens Tauber on piano will be playing at the opening on 20 November from 6 pm. The two young musicians will amaze you with their skilful jazz interpretations. Winno Sahm will give an introduction. Admission is free and all guests are invited to enjoy a drink.
