Renovation of the Nieder-Roden cemetery building

Stadtwerke Rodgau has set itself the goal of modernising the energy efficiency of the cemetery buildings it manages over the coming years. They will start in Nieder-Roden. The cemetery building there in the New Cemetery dates back to 1964/1965 and has potential for energy improvement in several respects. It is now due for refurbishment in terms of energy efficiency, sustainability and cost-effectiveness. As part of the planning process, an inventory of the entire cemetery building was first carried out. In addition, the various building law and structural engineering requirements were analysed. In this context, the installation of a photovoltaic system was also examined. This is to be realised on the new roof areas once the construction work has been completed. The windows and doors in the building itself will be replaced and fitted with triple glazing. There will also be energy-related changes to the heating system. Until now, the cemetery building has been heated with a gas boiler from the 1990s. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Stadtwerke Rodgau would like to do without fossil fuels in future and instead supply the cemetery building with air conditioning units and a heat pump in the mourning hall. The lighting will also be converted to LED. The toilet facilities at the Nieder-Röder cemetery are to be renovated in a barrier-free and vandalism-proof manner, similar to the Jügesheim forest cemetery. The same fixtures and fittings, such as stainless steel sanitaryware, will be used. The trades have been put out to tender and the contracts have already been awarded. The refurbishment will cost between 500,000 and 550,000 euros. Individual measures, in particular the planning of a new energy-efficient heating system, could be subsidised. In total, a subsidy of around 81,000 euros can be planned. The corresponding applications for funding have already been submitted. According to the construction schedule, the measures will last until autumn/winter of this year. In the run-up to a funeral, it will be agreed with all those involved, in particular the funeral directors, whether a funeral service and/or burial can take place during the renovation period. It is also possible to hold the funeral service directly at the grave.
