Integration through sport

The sports coaches of the city of Rodgau are supported as part of the Hessian funding programme "Sport integrates Hesse". The programme promotes the integration and participation of refugees, people with a migration background and socially disadvantaged people through sport. "Sport is an excellent platform for participation and integration," says Rodgau First City Councillor Janika Martin. "It connects people across cultural and social boundaries and promotes togetherness." Rodgau sports coaches Dana Tobaji and Arash Kalhori regularly take part in training courses on integration and social work. Among other things, they organise cycling and swimming courses and introduce new arrivals to local clubs. "With their commitment, Ms Tobaji and Mr Kalhori are making an important contribution to integration in our city," says Janika Martin. The "Sport integrates Hesse" programme is funded by the Hessian Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Sport, Health and Care. It supports Hessian municipalities that want to utilise the opportunities offered by sport for integration and social participation. The local authorities can use the funding to finance sports programmes for refugees and people with a migration background, support sports clubs with integration or train sports coaches, for example.
