The play "Mein Blind Date mit dem Leben" will be performed on Thursday, 1 February at 8 p.m. in the Bürgerhaus Nieder-Roden, Römerstraße 15, directed by Johannes Pfeifer and starring Benedikt Zimmermann, Ursula Buschhorn, Stefan Rehberg, Emery Escher and Dorothee Weingarten. At the age of 15, German-Singhalese Saliya Kahawatte almost completely loses his sight. The doctors tell him that he will soon go completely blind. He is told to leave school and work in a workshop for the blind. But Saliya wants to graduate from high school, go to university and lead a self-determined life. And he succeeds. He conceals his disability and gets an apprenticeship in the catering industry. Against all expectations, he overcomes the challenges with the help of a few well-meaning and knowledgeable colleagues and survives in the world of the sighted for 15 years. Fingertips, ears and intuition replace his eyes. But one day he has to admit that his world consists almost entirely of shadows. But Saliya does not give up. A moving, encouraging and often funny story written by life.
