Traffic islands are unsealed and greened

The city of Rodgau is actively committed to more green spaces and a better environment. In the coming years, the city will unseal many sealed traffic islands throughout the city and plant them with greenery. This project will not only enhance the cityscape, but also promote biodiversity. Last year, an inventory of all traffic islands in Rodgau was started. The first island on the corner of Wiesbadener Straße and Rodgau-Ring-Straße was unsealed back in the autumn. Intervention was necessary here as the roots of the plane trees had lifted the concrete slabs. The result is an attractive perennial planting that brings colour and life to the area all year round. This autumn, the next traffic island, Am Forschheimer See on the corner of Rodgau-Ring-Straße, was tackled. A lean topsoil has already been filled in there in order to sow a colourful wildflower and herb meadow next spring. This special seed mixture is tailored to the needs of public green spaces so that it does not impair the lines of sight in road traffic. The maintenance requirements for these new green spaces will be low. After the initial watering during the germination of the plants, they will only be mowed once or twice a year.
