Stadtwerke Rodgau has set itself the goal of modernising the energy efficiency of the cemetery buildings it manages over the coming years. They have started in Nieder-Roden. The cemetery building there at the New Cemetery dates back to 1964/1965 and showed potential for energy improvement in several respects. Following an inventory of the entire building, including the building law and structural engineering requirements, the refurbishment work began in May. The refurbishment has now been completed with a view to energy efficiency, sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Both the construction schedule and the budget were adhered to. The "all-round refurbishment" included various measures. In addition to new roof surfaces and lightning protection, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roofs of the mourning hall and the mortuary wing. The windows and doors in the building itself were replaced and fitted with triple glazing. There were also energy-related changes to the heating system. Until now, the cemetery building has been heated with a gas boiler from the 1990s. In future, Stadtwerke Rodgau will no longer use gas as a fossil fuel. Instead, a heat pump in the mourning hall and air conditioning units in the social and utility rooms will now ensure pleasant temperatures. With the new LED lights, the mourning hall has not only been fitted with contemporary equipment, but has also been given a further visual upgrade with two large pendant lights with a diameter of 1.50 metres. In addition to these rather large and eye-catching changes, extensive dry construction and painting work, tiling and carpentry work was carried out. The toilet facilities were also refurbished to make them barrier-free and vandal-proof. For example, stainless steel sanitaryware was installed. The refurbishment cost around 530,000 euros. Individual measures, in particular the planning of a new energy-efficient heating system, but also the new roof surfaces, the replacement of windows and doors, the conversion of the lighting to LED or insulation work, could be subsidised. A total subsidy of around 81,000 euros can be expected. The corresponding applications for funding are already being processed by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).
