Reforestation as part of the reforestation concept

As part of the reforestation concept of the city of Rodgau, a planting plan was drawn up for the reforestation of the 1.4 hectare area behind the new cemetery in Nieder-Roden, taking into account the soil conditions and the expected climatic changes. The originally planned planting of copper beech as the main tree species in 2018 was considered critical after a detailed examination by the urban planning department, as the copper beech is currently suffering massively from the environmental conditions. The specialist service therefore submitted a change request to the Lower Nature Conservation Authority to replace the beech as the main tree species with more climate-stable oak species. The UNB agreed to this after the planting plan was submitted. In addition to the sessile and downy oaks, the city of Rodgau has opted for bird cherry, winter lime and Norway maple as well as rare and ecologically interesting fluttering elms and ash trees. The edges are framed by field maples and hornbeams to better protect the outer edge of the area from the wind. A total of 50 rows with 140 trees each were planted. The tree species was changed after three rows in order to maintain a mixed forest and to avoid large gaps in the area in the event of one tree species failing. In autumn, a further 1120 plants will be planted as part of the Rodgau school forest campaign.
