Keeping animals is a nice thing to do, but there are a few points to consider on the administrative side to ensure that everyone - people and animals alike - can live together in harmony.

What happens if I don't clean up my dog's mess?
- Dog faeces must be removed immediately by the dog owner.
- Free poo bags are available at more than 40 locations in the city.
- If the dog's droppings are not removed, a fine of at least €50 must be paid in the event of a complaint.
How can I register or deregister my dog?
According to §10 of the dog tax statutes of the city of Rodgau, dog owners in urban areas must register their dogs within two weeks of acquiring the dog. As a rule, a dog tax is due. Registration and deregistration can be done online or analogue.

The annual tax for the first dog is currently €60 per year.

During the breeding season between 15 February and 15 June, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times throughout the city, even outside built-up areas. Dogs must also be kept on a lead all year round in the following places:- Traffic-calmed zones that are marked by signs
- Parks and other venues in the city
- Roads, bridges, subways and suburban railway stops
- Roads leading to the forest recreation centres
- Streets in the immediate vicinity of kindergartens and primary schools as well as playgrounds
Failure to comply with this regulation is punishable by a fine of €50.
How should I walk my dog in protected areas?
Dogs do not have to be kept on a lead in protected landscape areas outside the breeding season. However, make sure that your dog is always close to you so that you can intervene if necessary.
In nature reserves, both dogs and people must always stay on the designated paths. Dogs must generally be kept on a lead in these areas.Where can my dog stay off the lead?
There are two areas in Rodgau where your dog can run free off the lead all year round:
Dudenhofen

The following definition is given in the Dog Ordinance of the State of Hesse:
- Dogs which, as a result of breeding, keeping, training or training, are exceptionally combative, aggressive, sharp or have other characteristics that are dangerous to humans or animals
- Dogs that are listed in the Dog Ordinance and their crossbreeds with each other or with other dogs
- Dogs that have threatened, bitten or otherwise endangered people or animals without justifiable cause
