Predominant tree species in the urban forest

  • 85% the pine tree
  • Oak 8%
  • Beech 4%
  • Other (spruce, Douglas fir, etc.) 3%.

The planned annual felling amounts to around 12,000 cubic metres of wood per year with a commitment to sustainable forest management (= no more wood is felled than grows back in the year of felling). The Rodgau municipal forest is FSC and PEFC certified and is therefore subject to additional special controls and requirements.

Tasks and objectives of the city administration

In addition to the specialist area management in the town hall, there are also municipal foresters at the forestry yard who carry out a large part of the work with specialised forestry machinery and, above all, implement traffic safety measures.

Tasks

  • Sustainable timber harvesting
  • Traffic safety measures
  • Young stock maintenance
  • Reforestation and replanting
  • Recreational function such as the maintenance of the trim trail for citizens
  • Commissioning of the service provider Hessen-Forst and joint management of the municipal forest
  • Road construction
  • Implementation of the "Rodgau Forest of the Future" reforestation concept

Goals

  • Preservation of the urban forest as a commercial, protective and recreational forest
  • Creation and maintenance of a species-rich, healthy and stable mixed forest
  • Contribution to the supply of raw materials through wood production

Firewood

Firewood for private use can only be purchased online via the "Holzkontor Darmstadt-Dieburg-Offenbach" firewood shop. The municipal administration does not sell firewood.
