Living in old age
There are various housing options for older people: from assisted living at home to living in social housing and special offers for senior citizens.
Living at home
Counselling and assistance for older citizens and their relatives
The goal of most people is to remain independent and in their own home for as long as possible. In the course of life, situations can always arise in which illness, accident or old age can make it difficult or impossible to use your own home.
The town of Rodgau offers counselling to show you the options for living in old age. The focus here is on "How can I maintain my independence - even with age-related complaints?".
Housing counselling
- helps with the selection of aids
- informs about living with technology
- shows everyday services (meals on wheels, outpatient care services, etc.)
- Makes suggestions for adapting flats
- shows the possibilities for structural changes
- informs about financing options
- shows alternative housing options and forms of housing
The initial situations and needs of the citizens are addressed individually.
Living with service
So-called "assisted living " offers the opportunity to live independently in an age-appropriate flat or flat and to book additional support services according to individual needs. As "assisted living" is not a protected term, the services offered in the individual facilities can vary considerably. In Rodgau, the following facilities offer "assisted living":

Prerequisites
Low-income households have the opportunity to apply for a publicly subsidised flat for senior citizens (aged 60 and over) in Rodgau.
To apply for a subsidised flat for senior citizens in Rodgau, you must complete the application form and submit the documents required by us (see below).Decision-making process
Please note that the allocation of housing is decided exclusively by Department 7, Infrastructure Building Management (IGW). Our specialised service, the Social Services Department, only has the right to make suggestions. As soon as we receive a notification of vacancy for a flat, we propose three applicants from our list of applicants. Specialist Service 7 (IGW) decides from these three proposals who can move into the flat. The proposal is based on the social urgency of the applicants, so long waiting times cannot be ruled out.
- The city of Rodgau can therefore only fulfil your justified request for suitable accommodation to a limited extent.
- There is no legal entitlement to obtain a flat.
Flat size
Please note that the appropriate flat size depends on the number of people in your household.
- 1-person household: up to 50 m² or up to 1 living space
- 2-person household: up to 60 m² or up to 2 living rooms
- 3-person household: up to 75 m² or up to 3 living rooms
- for each additional person as required, a maximum of 12 m² or 1 additional living space.
The kitchen and ancillary rooms belonging to the flat (e.g. cellar) are not included.
If additional space or additional living space is required or will be required in the future (e.g. due to increased care needs or a walking disability), this must be justified and proven. In exceptional cases, such a need may then be recognised.
