To mark Europe Day, the town of Rodgau cordially invites all interested citizens to a small ceremony in the town hall. On Saturday, 9 May at 4 pm, the newly designed Europe Foyer of the Town Hall will be opened by Mayor Mr Breitenbach. The Europe Days commemorate two important historical events: the founding of the Council of Europe on 5 May 1949 and the "Schumann Declaration", the cornerstone of today's European Union, on 9 May 1950. Since 1986, celebrations and events have been held throughout Europe around these dates. The Council of Europe comprises 47 member states and has been safeguarding security in democratic states since 1993. It focuses in particular on protecting human rights, upholding democratic principles and strengthening the basic principles of the rule of law. The European Union is a unique economic and political union of currently 27 European states. The EU's objectives are sustainable development based on balanced economic growth and price stability, a competitive market economy with full employment, social progress and environmental protection. The EU is also committed to curbing social injustice and discrimination, as well as promoting scientific and technological progress.
